Spain shocked by Swiss
La Furia Roja kicked off their campaign for a first World Cup title with a horrific loss. Spain, who stayed unbeaten in all their warm-up matches, were not able to best 24-ranked Switzerland. A scrappy goal by Hernandes gave the Swiss the lead and unfortuneatly almost made it two, when one of the Swiss players slid the ball past Iker in the goal only to see it denied by the post. One of Spain's closest chances came from Xabi Alonso, who blasted a shot that took a huge richcochet off the crossbar. Yellow Frog really hates to say this, but good job, Switzerland. We never thought you could do it. And a shoutout to Mr. Del Bosque- THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE!!!! Straighten it out! It's to bad he can't hear us.
We will start Spain's World Cup coverage later today, but for now...
Yellow Frog is sure that everyone was a tad but more excited about the World Cup before it started than they are now. Come on, a series of draws and defeats and only a handful of wins, and with those wins coming the glorious showing that Germany gave when they played Australia. Also among those wins was a amazingly outside-curved kick from almost-Real Madrid defender Maicon. And to top it all off, a few of the teams that are winning were the teams predicted at the start to drop out and lose every single one of their games. Look at Group C. Slovenia, the country not many people had heard of, were firing balls that apparently the Algerian goalkeeper couldn't "reach." then the Group of Death, as it's known. This was supposed to be the most active and goal-bringing group, but all we have seen have been provided by North Korea and Brazil. And, of course, Drogba's shooting was definitely off yesterday, otherwise Ivory Coast had a shot at winning against Portugal. As for our beloved La Furia Roja, we will begin documenting and covering all the Spanish team news as well as mulling over the results of the games. Spain play Switzerland today at 7:00 AM, Pacific time. So stay here to watch Spain's world cup journey!

Florentin Pérez blurts his Messi opinion, Zlatan has finally been offloaded, and Ballack snatched up immediately by old Jose
This has been Yellow Frog's busiest week yet, with tons of stories an reports floating in. Well, those trash-talking Spaniards have finally learned their lesson by trash-talking...politely. Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has declared he wouldn't want to have Lionel Messi playing for him. Pèrez stated calmly in an interview that he would rather have Cristiano Ronaldo playing for him. " Messi is the best player in the world after Cristiano. It would not be nice to have them both on the same team, there would always be toouch competition." of course there would be. It would be like baseball players colliding with each other trying to get the pop-fly. Exactly.
Yesterday, Barça manager Josep Guardiola came full on with (polite) insults to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The twenty five year old Swede, who has not made many starting appearances for them, has been said numerous times he will be transfered. All were just rumours until Guardiola announced it himself. "he does not fit in with our playing style," he told Marca in an exclusive interview, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City are looking to snag him if he is put up for transfer at £40-45 million.
It's been all gloom and doom for Ballack over the past few days, as it was announced to the world that Michael Ballack, Joe Cole, and Juliano Belleti were all released by Chelsea after all three of them failed to reach contract agreements. But that's not it. As soon as our friend Jose here at the Bernabaeu heard of the release, he was quick to jump on the opportunity to sign the German, who was his fellow peer. Michael Becker, Ballack's everpresent agent, has played down rumours that the former Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern München playmaker will be returning to the Bundesliga, this time sporting a Werder Bremen jersey. "Not Werder," Becker told SID sports agency, as Schalke are lining up to see if they can get him first. Ballack said "I want to play two more years at the highest level." Mourinho has stated that with Ballack here along with Gerrard, they could lead to the Galactico's revival.

Spain demolishes weak Poland team 6-0
After failing to impress with two wins away at Saudi Arabia and South Korea, Spain were fired up again after coming back to their own home turf. The European champions showed how fired up they were with two early goals by David Villa and David Silva. After that a goal drought until the second half. Xabi Alonso, Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres, and Pedro all added to the ever-increasing scoreline. Poland's strikers were quiet through the game and did not get many oppurtunities to change the score. But, Vicente Del Bosque still has one thing to worry about a week and one day before their World Cup campaign kicks off. Andres Iniesta asked to be subsistuted after experiencing pain in one of his thigh muscles. Iniesta has had a string of thigh problems over the last year, but up until now was in brilliant form, setting up David Villa and David Silva to net their goals. Iniesta was replaced by Pedro in the 39th minute, but dis not exit the field for immediate treatment. Instead, he took his place among his teammates on the bench. Fernando Hierro, a director of the Spanish Football Association, said that it was just a scare. Nothing worse than a strain was what it was. Other than Iniesta's injury, (which will surely heal before Spain's World Cup opener), Del Bosque was immensely satisfied with his team's overall performance. If Spain keep their goalscoring record this way, they might end up eventual World Cup champions. There first match in Group H is against Switzerland in Durban on June the 16.

Xavi the scientist and stubborn Sevilla
Since 16, Cesc Fabregas was recognized as a brilliant player, for Barça and for Arsenal. Now, as the World Cup looms and the Furia Roja keep training, other Spanish national team players have been questioned regarding their opinion of the Fabregas-Barça Affair. Pedro, of Barcelona himself, said "I would love to see Fabregas back at the club. He hasn't been here in a while (go figure) an it would be great to see him play here again." Xavi said "he has Barça DNA in him. I would feel great playing alongside my World Cup teammate." So far, both midfielders have played excellently for the Spanish side, who are unbeaten in their World Cup warm-up matches. Their next match is against Poland tomorrow, where Vicente Del Bosque hopes to win, as they are playing here at home. And, as always, Yellow Frog will have constant Twitter updates on the score and a blog post about how the Spanish team fared, as we do will be doing with every Spain World Cup match.

Mourinho targets Gerrard to lead the Galacticos
A week after accepting the coveted position of manager of Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho has now set his min on bringing in some MORE fresh, new talent. One of the people (yes, we know, not so fresh and new) he is aiming to bring to the Bernabeau is Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard. Madrid president Florentino Pérez has given the okay on this move, and Christian Purslow, Gerrard's agent, has said that this decision will be left entirely up to Stevey G himself. The idea of playing for the Spanish giants would be very tempting, and Gerrard has admitted that he may want to leave Anfield following the departure of Rafa Benitez. If Gerrard should sign for Real, he will be checked off along a posible Maicon, who Mourinho has down as one of his all-important summer signings. If both players are signed, they may be playing cards together on the plane trip over to Spain.

La Furia Roja players support a worldwide movement (for the first time, maybe)!
At the scheduled Friday training practice for the Spanish national team, a handful of the players including Sergio Ramos, Carles Puyol, David Villa, Pepe Reina, Xavi Hernandez, Jesus Navas, Juan Mata, Raul Albíol, and Sergio Busquets decided to change their normal training uniforms for Massivegood t-shirts. Massivegood is a worldwide movement raising money to help treat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and improve mothers and their children's lives in the poorest countries around the world. Now, every time someone buys a plane ticket for the World Cup, books a hotel room or rents a car (or all three), a micro-funding of just £2 euros goes to Massivegood. Spain are the first team to show support for a cosmopolitan charity organization, but hopefully will not be the first, Well done, Reds (and we don't mean Liverpool)!

Fighting over Ibra again, Mr. Laporta?!
More confusion in the top flight for the men in red (and blue). There has been a recent dispute between Pep Guardiola and Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent, Mino Raiola about transfer issues with the young Swede. Mino was quoted in a press conference as saying "Guardiola needs to go to a mental hospital," among other crude remarks. "when Barça talk transfers, why do they always put Ibra's name out there instead of Lionel Messi or Pedro?" Joan Oliver. Barça's general manager, was quick to Guard's rescue, though, saying that those were all just rumours and that they would not be selling him. But after a less than satisfactory season, and being replaced by youngster Bojan Krkic on the pitch (and with much better results), AND with the arrival of David Villa from Valencia for £40 million, people have begun to speculate that Ibrahimovic will be moving soon, possibly to England. Meanwhile, those English chaps at Arsenal just don't seem to be agreeing with Juan Laporta. Oh well...
